Wilderness Exhibition
Wilderness Photographic Exhibition.
This is a preview of my forthcoming exhibition to be held at St Giles Church, West Bridgford Nottingham on Saturday 10th , Sunday 11th October and Wednesday 14th October until Sunday 18th October. 12-7pm.
The Photographs
These photographs were taken on a trips to Yellowstone Park, Wyoming USA in September 2008 , central Norway in September 2007, as well as a couple of trips to central Scotland.
All images were taken on Fujichrome Velvia slide film for optimum definition and colour saturation. (These were my last images taken on slides and I have since defected to “The Dark Side” and gone digital!).
The Photographer…
I am a keen amateur photographer who has lived in West Bridgford on and off for the last 16 years . Photography is a passion and makes a change from the challenges of pursuing a business career. I have held two prior exhibitions at St Giles, with the most recent one in 2007 raising £6,500 for Retrak, an East African Children’s training and rehabilitation charity. Previously I have jointly exhibited work at the Chelsea College of Art, The Royal Photographic Society in Bath and was a multiple semi-finalist in the 2007 Shell Wildlife photographer of the Year Competition hosted by the Natural History Museum in London.
The Causes…..
All proceeds from the exhibition will be split equally between Leukaemia Research and the West Bridgford based Friary Drop-In Centre for the homeless.
Leukaemia Research is the only charity in the UK dedicated exclusively to researching blood cancers and disorders including Leukaemia, which affects young and old alike. This charity is particularly close to my heart as my father died of Leukaemia last October, aged 72, following a 9 month battle. He was a Naval Officer, engineer, yacht skipper and author. A great man, who happened to be my father.
The photographs of Yellowstone are particularly poignant as these were taken in my father’s last few days and he was adamant that I should go on the trip as it had been booked for 18 months; he died just 6 days after my return from Yellowstone.
The Friary Drop-In Centre is supported by a variety of organisations as well as several of the Churches across West Bridgford, including St Giles’. It reaches out to the homeless of Nottingham providing advice, food, bedding and access to health and rehabilitation services.
With this exhibition I hope to match prior fund raising success in aid of these two worthy causes; Leukaemia touches so many people in so many ways either directly or indirectly and the Friary Drop-In is becoming increasingly relevant in these difficult economic times.
